Joshua Reyes

My name is Joshua Reyes, and I’ve been a Speech-Language Pathologist for 16 years across a wide range of settings, including acute care, subacute rehabilitation, outpatient, and schools.

I discovered this field while working as a teacher’s aide at a school for kids with autism. The school had limited resources, and staff had to be creative and resourceful. That environment, along with the creative music and art scene in Chicago, gave me a DIY mindset when it comes to communication, cognition, as well as art and music.

From my first clinical placement, I was underwhelmed by the cognitive materials available to SLPs. So I did what felt natural: I combined that DIY attitude with a hobby for graphic design and started making my own. That first batch of tasks has been for sale on Teachers Pay Teachers ever since.

This site is what happens when that same instinct meets 16 years of clinical experience.

About This Site

Free Functional Cognitive Stimuli is the digital evolution of those paper-based materials, rebuilt from the ground up to be richer, more flexible, and permanently free for the clinicians who need them.

The original printable materials are still available on Teachers Pay Teachers if you prefer a physical format for your sessions.

Free Functional Cognitive Stimuli is free because I want it to be—but hosting, maintenance, and development have real costs. To keep the lights on, the site carries a small number of advertisements. They’re unobtrusive and never interrupt a session in progress. If you find the site useful, leaving them unblocked is the simplest way to support it.
